With a main berth 450 m long and dredged to 15 m, able to handle two 100,000-DWT vessels at once, Bang Saphan ranks among the deepest seaports in Thailand. The facility is run by Prachuap Port Company, a subsidiary of Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI), and works as the captive port of an integrated steel site about 400 km south of Bangkok. It discharges raw materials such as iron ore, slabs and coal and loads the plant's hot-rolled coil (HRC), backed by SSI's capacity of roughly 4 million tonnes of HRC a year. For forwarders this is a bulk and steel terminal, not a public container or general-cargo gateway, and third-party liner calls are not the norm. Inland connections serve the works itself via the road network of Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Containerised cargo for Thailand is handled at Laem Chabang, the country's principal gateway, with Bangkok Port as a secondary option.
