# Bandon (US BDY)

**UN/LOCODE:** US BDY

Despite the 'port' in its name, Bandon today carries almost no commercial freight. A century ago the town at the mouth of the Coquille River ran five sawmills, two shipyards and a steamship line to Portland and San Francisco, but as timber and fishing declined the Port of Bandon district refocused on crabbers, recreational anglers and tourism. There are no scheduled container, breakbulk or RoRo services, so for forwarders its cargo relevance is minimal. Commercial ocean freight on Oregon's south coast moves through Coos Bay, the region's main deep-water port about 40 km to the north.
