Operated by Çelebi, the Port of Bandırma is a genuine multipurpose facility on the Sea of Marmara rather than the modest jetty its 'very small' label suggests. State producer Eti Maden ships the bulk of Turkey's boron exports through here, drawing on the Balıkesir reserves that account for a large share of the world's known boron. Across separate terminals the port handles dry bulk, general cargo, liquids, RoRo and containers, moving more than 900,000 tonnes of exports a year. Hinterland access combines road and rail into inland Anatolia, complemented by ferry links across the Marmara. For forwarders, Bandırma works best for bulk, breakbulk and project cargo originating in northwest Anatolia. High-volume container traffic is better routed via nearby Gemlik (Gemport) or the ports around İzmit on the eastern Marmara.
