Owned by the Knuthenborg Estate, Bandholm is Denmark's only privately run port, its modern trade still tied to the estate on the Baltic island of Lolland. It is a bulk and breakbulk port: cargoes include sugar, fertiliser, grain, wood pellets, logs, fuel oil, stone and gravel, with no container handling. A channel depth of about 4.9 m limits it to small coasters, so it mainly serves regional agricultural and construction-material flows. A rail link to Maribo and the motorway just 7 km away toward Copenhagen, Hamburg and the Fehmarn Belt link give it solid hinterland access. For boxes or larger parcels, forwarders turn to nearby Nykøbing Falster or the larger Baltic terminals.
