Registered under UN/LOCODE CD BNW, Banana is the site of the Democratic Republic of the Congo's first deep-water container port, a DP World project designed for an initial 450,000 TEU per year at the mouth of the Congo River on the South Atlantic. Until it opens, Matadi and Pointe-Noire remain the practical alternatives for Congolese import and export containers.
