Handling refined sugar as its principal cargo, the Port of Bais (UN/LOCODE PH BAI) is the main shipping outlet for sugar produced around Bais City on the east coast of Negros Island, Negros Oriental. Sheltered anchorage depths of up to about 16.5 m on the Tañon Strait let the port take oceangoing vessels alongside break-bulk and dry-bulk berths. Sugarcane covers roughly a third of the city's farmland, feeding a steady flow of bagged and bulk sugar to domestic and export markets.
