Around 500,000 TEU a year cross roughly 1,074 m of quay served by seven cranes at San Vicente Terminal Internacional (SVTI), making this one of southern Chile's leading container gateways. The multipurpose terminal sits in San Vicente Bay near Talcahuano, in the Biobío Region about 505 km south of Santiago. Its mainstay cargoes are the region's forestry products, fishmeal and agricultural goods, including refrigerated loads. Liner services link it to North America, Europe and Asia. Hinterland access is strong, with rail running directly into the terminal and Route 5 close at hand. For added regional capacity the neighbouring ports of Talcahuano, Lirquén and Coronel are options, with San Antonio handling central-Chile throughput.
