Three working berths – a tanker dock, a dry-cargo dock and a barge dock – define Bahia De Las Minas, an oil port on a peninsula about 9 km east of the Panama Canal's Atlantic entrance. Royal Vopak has operated Chevron's fuel terminal here since 1 September 2016; the facility holds 65 tanks with around 519,000 cbm of capacity, and the attached refinery imports crude and ships out refined products. The tanker berth handles vessels up to 240 m, 11.8 m draught and roughly 60,000 DWT, while a bulk terminal (Terminal Granelera) adds dry-bulk and breakbulk capability and the former coal- and gas-fired power station was retired in 2021. Vopak has also secured approvals for its own independent terminal, a first phase of 360,000 cbm with new jetties for ships up to 80,000 DWT. Containers are not handled here: shippers route boxes through nearby Colón gateways such as Manzanillo International Terminal, Cristóbal and Colón Container Terminal. Road links into the Colón Free Zone and on to Panama City form the port's hinterland.
