# Bahia De Ancon (PEANC)

**UN/LOCODE:** PEANC
**Country:** Peru
**Water Body:** South Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** -11.7500, -77.1833

Listed under UN/LOCODE PEANC, Bahía de Ancón fills a narrow but real role rather than acting as a general cargo port. The sheltered bay, about 43 kilometres north of Lima and just north of Callao, is the obligatory lighterage and discharge point for IMO Class 1 dangerous goods — explosives — bound for Callao. Beyond that, Ancón is a fishery port and seaside resort with largely local traffic. Anchorage depths run around five to six metres, while an oil terminal reaches roughly 14 to 15 metres. Containers, bulk and general ocean freight move instead through Callao (PE CLL) or the newer deep-water port of Chancay to the north, making Ancón relevant chiefly for hazardous-cargo handling serving the Lima area.
