Unlike the cargo ports of İzmir bay, Ayvalik on Turkey's Aegean coast is first and foremost a passenger-ferry and tourism harbour, facing the Greek island of Lesbos. From its sheltered basin, Turyol, Ugur Jale and Jalem Tur run roughly eleven weekly crossings to Mytilene, taking about 1h20–1h30. The port offers a duty-free area and facilities sized for heavy summer passenger flows, but no significant container or bulk terminals, so freight relevance is limited. Road links connect the hinterland to Balıkesir and İzmir. For commercial sea and container cargo the relevant gateways are İzmir (Alsancak) and Aliağa, with nearby Dikili offering additional ferry services.
