Atsumi exists chiefly to serve a Chubu Electric Power station, which shapes everything about this specialised harbour on Aichi Prefecture's Atsumi Peninsula. It functions as a tanker discharge port, able to offload crude oil at up to 35,000 tons per working day; tankers account for roughly three-quarters of its some 50 annual calls, with general cargo making up most of the rest. Vessels of up to about 253 m length and 10.3 m draught can be accommodated. There is no container or reefer terminal here — Atsumi is an energy port, not a box-handling facility. For containerised or mixed freight, Nagoya and Mikawa Port (Toyohashi) are the nearest capable options. Road and rail links serve the heavily industrialised Chubu hinterland.
