# Ashtart Oil Terminal (TN ASH)

**UN/LOCODE:** TN ASH
**Country:** Tunisia
**Water Body:** Mediterranean Sea; North Atlantic Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Small
**Harbor Type:** Open Roadstead
**GPS:** 34.2833, 11.3833

Discovered in 1971 and on stream since 1974, the Ashtart field off the Gulf of Gabès has fallen to roughly 2,900 barrels a day (September 2024) from a 1979 peak near 47,100 b/d, and its offshore loading terminal (UN/LOCODE TN ASH) is a crude-export point, not a conventional cargo harbour. Operated by Serept — a 50/50 joint venture of Tunisia's state company ETAP and Perenco — the installation consists of five platforms and three tanker berths in open roadstead. There are no container, breakbulk or RoRo facilities and no commercial quay infrastructure, and with the field ageing, throughput is in long-term decline. Forwarders handling general cargo or containers for southern Tunisia should not route shipments here; the port of Sfax handles boxed and breakbulk freight, while liquid-bulk volumes move through the La Skhira oil terminal. No commercial customs clearance takes place at Ashtart.
