Ashdod punches well above its formal 'small harbour' label: it is one of Israel's two principal container gateways and the main sea entry for greater Tel Aviv, the central districts and Jerusalem. In 2024 it handled about 1.85 million TEU, up nearly 16 percent year on year, alongside general cargo, reefer loads, vehicles and selected bulk. The centrepiece is the semi-automated Hadarom terminal, with 800 m and 500 m quays, roughly 63 hectares of yard and around 1.7 million TEU of capacity, operated by Terminal Investment Limited (TIL) of the MSC group. The older terminals are run by the state-owned Israel Ports Company, taking Ashdod's combined design capacity above 3.2 million TEU. Dense motorway and rail links carry boxes directly to the consumption centres of central Israel. Mainline carriers call Ashdod within Mediterranean services connecting Europe, Asia and North America. Customs clearance runs through the Israel Tax Authority and is built for heavy import and export flows. For cargo bound for northern Israel, or when berths are tight, the Port of Haifa is the natural alternative.
