Heavy industry, offshore energy and maritime transshipment define Argentia, a working port in Placentia Bay on the southeast coast of Newfoundland. It is not a container gateway but a supply and project-cargo base: stevedores handle breakbulk, project and general cargo plus offshore energy supply, across roughly 200 vessel calls and about 180,000 tonnes a year. The marine terminal offers 630 metres of berth plus cold storage, and can take ships up to 300 metres long at around 11 metres draft. Argentia is North America's first monopile marshalling port, with over 70 hectares of paved laydown dedicated to staging foundation structures for US offshore wind projects; in 2025 it expanded that yard capacity for the coming wind build-out. Container cargo moves on a feeder basis through Eimskip, which calls here on its Green Line linking Europe and the United States. For scheduled container services or larger volumes, St. John's and Halifax are the obvious alternatives.
