Manganese, coal and fertilisers, methanol, benzene and naphtha, plus gases such as propene and butadiene make up the trade at Aratu-Candeias (BR ARB), Bahia's bulk and petrochemical port some 50 kilometres from Salvador. Run by the state docks company CODEBA and in operation since 1975, the deepwater port handled around 5.4 million tonnes between January and November 2025, predominantly dangerous and industrial cargoes. Three terminals serve the port, among them a solid-bulk facility with two piers, silos and warehouses worked by operators such as Braskem, Vopak, Ultracargo and Dow Chemical. Container handling is effectively absent; that role falls to neighbouring Tecon Salvador. Planned investments of roughly R$400 million target the mineral-bulk terminal, alongside a new liquid-bulk pier from Ultracargo. Road and rail links connect the port to greater Salvador and the Camaçari chemical and steel complex.
