Six sugar warehouses holding roughly 450,000 sacks, a pier of about 148 metres with two berths and water depth around 6.7 metres set the scale of Antilla (CU ANT) on Cuba's Bahía de Nipe. The port is first and foremost an agricultural export point for sugar and other regional produce such as tobacco, restricted to vessels of about 190 metres or less. It grew up in the early twentieth century as a railway and port town for the timber and sugar trade, and in its heyday 22 sugar mills shipped their output through it.
