Petrobras and its logistics arm Transpetro give Angra dos Reis its main cargo role: the TEBIG terminal here (Terminal Marítimo Almirante Maximiano Fonseca) is one of Brazil's largest crude-oil import and cabotage terminals, piping supply to the Duque de Caxias and Gabriel Passos refineries. Set in the deep, sheltered Ilha Grande Bay, the area is built around heavy industry rather than liner container trade. The BrasFELS yard — now part of Seatrium — fabricates offshore platforms and modules, having built 10 of the 23 topside modules for Petrobras's P-78 FPSO, which began producing in the Búzios field at the end of December 2025. The public port operated by TPAR is being developed into an offshore oil-and-gas supply base. Iron ore for export moves not through Angra itself but via Vale's nearby Ilha Guaíba terminal in Sepetiba Bay, fed by the MRS railway. For containers and general merchandise, shippers use Itaguaí (Sepetiba), Rio de Janeiro or Santos; landside access is mainly by the BR-101 coastal highway between Rio and Santos.
