About 8.5 million tonnes of cargo, over 110,000 TEU and more than 1.6 million passengers pass through Ancona (IT AOI) each year, marking it as a genuinely multipurpose port on Italy's central Adriatic coast. Inland connections rely on the A14 motorway and rail links into central Italy's industrial districts. Shippers needing large container capacity tend to use Trieste, Venice or Ravenna, while Ancona's strengths lie in RoRo, ferry and breakbulk traffic.
