Kumport alone moved about 1.54 million TEU in 2025, a clear gain on the previous year, inside an Ambarlı complex (TR AMR) whose combined capacity exceeds 3 million TEU. The terminals — Marport, Kumport and Mardaş — line the Sea of Marmara on the European side of Istanbul, west of the historic centre, across more than twenty berths. Marport completed a USD 250 million modernisation that lengthened its fifth berth from 360 to 450 metres, deepened the water and commissioned four new electric ship-to-shore cranes, with further investment announced for 2026. Apron depths of around 16.5 metres at the newest quays accommodate very large container vessels, and the complex also handles general cargo. Marport belongs to Turkey's Arkas group, while Kumport is majority-held by a Chinese consortium. Trucks reach the industrial belt of Thrace and north-western Anatolia via the D100 and TEM motorways. Ambarlı ranks among Turkey's most important customs and foreign-trade points, serving primarily the European half of greater Istanbul. Shippers east of the city, or those facing congestion, can turn to the Gulf of İzmit ports such as DP World Yarımca and Evyap, and to Asyaport near Tekirdağ.
