Treat Aliağa less as a single harbour than as one of Turkey's densest heavy-industry coastlines on the Aegean, a complex that moved roughly 2.1 million TEU in 2024. Around Nemrut Bay sit the TÜPRAŞ and STAR oil refineries, the Petkim petrochemical complex, EgeGaz's LNG terminal and one of the world's largest ship-recycling yards. Containers and general cargo pass through the deep-water Petlim terminal — now controlled by SOCAR Türkiye and dimensioned, with about 700 metres of quay and up to 16 metres alongside, for the largest container vessels. Throughput is dominated by refined oil and petrochemical products, LPG/LNG, dry bulk (including via Ege Gübre) and steel and project cargo. Hinterland access runs via the motorway to İzmir and Turkey's national road network, with rail serving heavy industrial flows. For pure Aegean container liner services, İzmir-Alsancak is the alternative; for liquids and bulk, Aliağa is the regional first choice. Customs clearance is handled by the Turkish customs administration at the respective terminals.
