Operated by North Oil Company — a joint venture of QatarEnergy (70%) and TotalEnergies (30%) — Al Shaheen Terminal serves Qatar's largest offshore oil field, roughly 80 kilometres north of Doha. The field counts 33 platforms and more than 300 wells and accounts for around 45% of national oil output, close to 100 million barrels a year. Crude is stored on two of the world's largest double-hulled FSO vessels, FSO Africa and FSO Asia, and exported to tankers through single-point moorings. As such it is purely an offshore crude-export terminal, with no container, RoRo, breakbulk or customs operations. Shippers handling commercial cargo for Qatar should use Hamad Port south of Doha for boxes and general freight, and Ras Laffan for LNG and energy products. The terminal itself plays no role in conventional forwarding.
