Fifty berths across two basins – 34 at King Fahd Industrial Port and 16 at Jubail Commercial Port – place Al Jubayl (SA JBI) among the largest man-made port complexes on the Persian Gulf. Lying about 90 km north of Dammam, the industrial port ranks as the world's largest of its kind and handles up to 70 million tonnes a year, mainly exports of petrochemicals, refined products, fertilizers and sulfur, plus raw-material imports for local industry. Dedicated terminals cover general cargo, bulk, marine equipment, petrochemicals and an open-sea tanker berth. The commercial port to the south handles containers and breakbulk and is operated by Gulftainer. Inland links run by road and the Saudi rail network toward Riyadh and Dammam. For pure container liner services, however, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam remains the leading choice, while crude moves through Ras Tanura.
