Roughly 19.9 million tonnes of cargo and some 7.5 million tonnes of bunker-fuel sales in 2024 make Fujairah the Middle East's largest bunkering hub and one of the top three worldwide. Sitting on the Gulf of Oman, the port specialises in liquid bulk — crude oil, gasoline, diesel, bunker and lube oils — backed by more than 10 million cubic metres of tank storage from operators such as Vopak Horizon and the Fujairah Oil Terminal. Its position outside the Strait of Hormuz gives traders a fuelling and storage point that bypasses the chokepoint during tensions. Dry bulk such as rock and aggregates is also shipped, while container traffic remains secondary. Customs and free-zone facilities support the oil-trading business rather than boxed cargo. For containers, nearby Khor Fakkan and Dubai's Jebel Ali are the natural alternatives.
