Around 3 million tonnes a year — up 9.3% in 2025, nearly four times the national ANP average — plus the world's leading sardine-exporting port: Agadir is Morocco's main fishing harbour and fourth-busiest commercial port. Serving the Souss-Massa region, it ships citrus, early vegetables, cereals, coal and petroleum products, with a cold-chain backbone built for some 900 reefer containers and a large onshore fish-processing industry. Since 1 February 2026, all exports of fresh and frozen sardines require a prior government licence. Its container terminal — roughly 127,000 TEU, three berths, about 280 metres of quay and 10.5 metres of depth, operated by Marsa Maroc's SMA subsidiary — connects to Spain, France (Port-Vendres for reefer cargo), Portugal and the western Mediterranean, with a new Agadir–Dakar service added in 2026. In August 2026 the Souss-Massa region raised the port's modernisation budget to MAD 481.8 million, allocating MAD 130 million for basin dredging to handle larger vessels and approximately MAD 280 million for a third road access set to break ground in September 2026. The Agadir Atlantic Hub dry-port project — a MAD 1.4 billion inland container depot — is planned for partial commissioning in 2026 and full completion by 2028, relieving pressure on the seaport. The facilities operate under the ANP; for large-scale container and transshipment volumes, Tanger Med remains Morocco's principal gateway.
