Southern Jutland's heavy-industry coastline gains its deep-water outlet at Aabenraa, where the Ensted Bulk Terminal offers a 500-metre quay and 18 metres of water — enough for very large vessels. Acquired from Vattenfall in 2021 and once a coal storage and transhipment site for the Enstedværket power plant, the terminal adds around 163,000 m² and, merged with land previously bought from DONG, forms the roughly 318,000 m² Aabenraa Industrial Port. Throughput centres on dry bulk, project and heavy-lift cargo, with wind-turbine manufacturing, metal processing and recycling planned for the adjoining land. This is a bulk and industrial port rather than a container facility. Inland connections run via the E45 motorway and rail through southern Jutland, with the German border only a few kilometres away. Containerised cargo is better routed through Aarhus and its APM terminal, with Fredericia as an alternative.
