Clinker, cement, foodstuffs, fruit and refined-oil products make up the working cargo mix at Abadan, a river port on Iran's Arvand Rud (Shatt al-Arab) roughly 50 km upstream from the Persian Gulf. Home to one of Iran's largest refineries, the city is synonymous with petroleum, yet the port itself has handled almost no tanker traffic since the Iran–Iraq War and now relies on bunkering and modest general-cargo flows.
