# Tariff Rates Updated as of October 1st: Briefly Review Customs Tariff Before Filing Declaration

The Federal Customs Administration (BAZG) updated the electronic customs tariff Tares effective October 1, 2026.

For customs agents, this is a typical deadline when existing master data should not be carried forward blindly. However, this does not mean that every tariff number or customs rate has been changed.

In addition to the actual tariff numbers, Tares contains information on permits, duties, preferential rates, and other measures. Changes can therefore affect individual product categories without requiring a complete tariff overhaul.

Those who regularly clear the same items should briefly cross-check critical positions. This is particularly useful for goods where permits, agricultural duties, prohibitions, or special import regulations play a role.

With automated customs systems, you should also verify that the current master data has been imported. The BAZG also provided updated e-dec tariff master data in September.

For practical purposes: If a declaration suddenly shows different plausibility messages or a rate no longer matches the previous month, do not simply dismiss it. First check Tares, then proceed with your work.

This is not a spectacular topic, but these small changes often cause unnecessary inquiries in daily operations.
