For exporters, freight forwarders, and customs agents, this means: update master data and conduct sanctions checks. --- Switzerland is updating its sanctions lists this evening in connection with the war in Ukraine. The changes take effect on August 17, 2026 at 11:00 PM. Important: This update does not simply add 610 new sanctioned persons or companies. Rather, the information for 610 already existing entries in Annex 2 has been updated. This includes, for example, names, spelling variations, addresses, registration numbers, or other company data. At first glance, this appears to be a technical change, but it is important for practical application. For example: A Russian company was already on the list, but has now registered an additional address or different company name. Sanctions software or internal customer lists with outdated data may then have difficulty recognizing that it is the same company. Among the updated entries are, for example, JSC Kalashnikov, JSC SEZ Alabuga, and also Euro Asia Cargo from Sri Lanka. This also demonstrates: Sanctions screening cannot simply search by the country Russia. Listed companies can also be located in third countries. Additionally, Yelo Bank from Azerbaijan is being removed from Annex 14a. This annex concerns banks and companies for which certain specialized messaging services in payment transactions are restricted. However, the removal does not automatically mean that every transaction with the bank is possible without further review. Other sanctions provisions must continue to be checked separately. --- For freight forwarders, customs agents, and shippers, one thing is particularly important: The sanctions database should be up to date as of this evening. A simple example: You checked a Russian recipient yesterday and received no hit. Today, an already listed company was supplemented with an additional spelling variant or address. At the next check, a hit can suddenly appear. That's why you shouldn't just check new customers. For critical exports, existing business partners, recipients, banks, and end users should also be run through the current list again. In short: Not 610 new sanctions – but 610 updated data records. However, this is still important for clean sanctions screening. --- The amendment officially bears the date of August 14, 2026. It enters into force on August 17, 2026 at 23:00. In Annex 2, 610 existing entries were modified. This does not involve 610 new listings. Changes were made to information concerning persons and companies. Companies outside Russia are also among the modified entries. Yelo Bank from Azerbaijan is being removed from Annex 14a. Yelo Bank was listed there since May 22, 2026.
