> Riyadh experiences short-term air freight capacity losses. The analysis from October 9 shows significant disruptions, but no permanent impact.

---

Air freight handling in Riyadh is under pressure following attacks on the airport. The Loadstar reported on October 9th on flight cancellations and significantly reduced available capacity. The analysis is based on data from aviation data provider Rotate. For freight forwarders, what matters most now is which booked flights actually take place.

The stated international outbound capacity from cargo aircraft and large passenger aircraft fell by 34 percent to 848 tonnes in the 24-hour window observed. For incoming dedicated cargo connections, the decline was 77 percent. Comparable time windows from the previous week were compared. The figures measure flight capacity and not cargo volumes already processed.

This distinction is important for planning purposes. A short-term decline cannot be extrapolated for the entire month. Similarly, a reopened airport does not mean that every airline will operate its full flight schedule. According to the report, airport operations resumed while individual airlines had suspended their connections.

Anyone sending goods to Riyadh or collecting them there should obtain a new confirmation before delivery. This includes flight number, departure date, acceptance deadline, and confirmed cargo weight. In the event of a reroute, handling at the alternative airport and any possible road onward transport must also be clarified.

Particularly with temperature-controlled goods, no one should rely on an unverified alternative route. Storage, temperature management, and responsibility during transshipment must be aligned. The same applies to urgent spare parts: a fast initial leg helps little if the goods subsequently wait for a connection.

Additional costs cannot be quantified based on the capacity reduction alone. Have any offered surcharges and new transit times explicitly stated. For customer commitments, you need a confirmed transport route with clear handovers, rather than a general assumption about airport operations.

---

Confirm the flight status again before pickup and delivery. For sensitive cargo, clarify storage and substitute transport costs in advance. In short: an open airport is not yet a confirmed freight slot.
