# Netherlands Introduces Truck Toll

> As of July 1, 2026, trucks in the Netherlands will pay distance-based tolls. Foreign vehicles will also need a functioning toll device beforehand.

Starting July 1, 2026, it will become serious for trucks in the Netherlands. A new kilometer-dependent toll will then be introduced on almost all motorways and on selected regional and municipal roads.

Dutch and foreign trucks over 3.5 tons are affected. This means that Swiss, German, Belgian, and other international fleets must also be prepared.

Every affected truck needs a functioning toll device. Prior to this, a contract must be concluded with an approved toll service provider, or an existing EETS contract for the Netherlands must be extended. Simply entering and paying later does not work.

The amount of the toll depends on the vehicle weight, Euro emissions standard, and CO₂ class. Cleaner and lighter vehicles pay less. The average rate at the start is approximately 19.1 cents per kilometer. From September 1, 2026, a temporary reduction of 22.3 percent is planned.

At the same time, the Netherlands is exiting the Eurovignette system. From July 1, the Eurovignette will no longer be sufficient there. It will continue to be required for Luxembourg and Sweden.

For freight forwarders, this means: check vehicles, contracts, and toll devices now. Anyone driving without a functioning device on July 1 risks a fine and unnecessary trouble.

For freight forwarders and truck drivers, this is an immediate priority. Anyone driving to the Netherlands from July onwards should not wait until their first tour.

Check now: Is the vehicle registered? Does the existing EETS device also work in the Netherlands? Does the contract need to be extended? Are the weight, Euro standard, and CO₂ class correct?

Shippers should also expect higher road costs. The new toll will sooner or later appear in freight rates and toll surcharges.

In short: The Eurovignette is being eliminated, the kilometer-based toll is coming. Do not set off without a toll device.

The Dutch truck toll starts on July 1, 2026.

The Eurovignette will no longer be valid in the Netherlands from July 1, 2026.
