> Isaias hits Florida as Category 2 hurricane. Road closures, flight cancellations, and delays threaten transportation along the US Gulf Coast.

---

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin in the U.S. state of Florida on Friday evening, October 9. According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm reached wind speeds of approximately 165 km/h at landfall, making it a Category 2 hurricane.

The western Florida Panhandle and parts of Alabama are particularly affected. Heavy rainfall, flooding, fallen trees, and power outages are causing disruptions in the region. The storm is now moving inland and losing strength there. Heavy rain and localized flooding remain a concern.

For logistics, this primarily means: Transportation through Florida and Alabama must account for closed roads, delayed pickups, and restricted operating hours. Flights have also been cancelled. The area around Pensacola is particularly affected by the storm.

A second important point is energy supply. Prior to the storm, 129 offshore production platforms were evacuated. Approximately 71.5 percent of daily oil production and nearly 59 percent of gas production in the Gulf were shut down as a precaution. This corresponds to roughly 1.46 million barrels of oil per day.

This does not automatically mean that diesel or gasoline prices will increase significantly. What matters is how quickly platforms, pipelines, and refineries can return to normal operations.

Anyone currently dispatching shipments to Florida, Alabama or across the Gulf Coast should plan lead times with adequate buffer.

Especially for pickups and deliveries around Pensacola, Mobile and the Florida Panhandle, check with the carrier beforehand whether the depot is accessible. Connecting flights and local trucking connections may also be disrupted for several more days.

For temperature-controlled or time-critical shipments, additionally verify whether power outages are affecting warehouses or transshipment hubs.

Also keep an eye on developments regarding diesel prices and fuel surcharges. Production losses are considerable, but are expected to be only temporary for now.

In short: Isaias is on land, but for logistics, the cleanup phase is only just beginning.
