> Hapag-Lloyd expects significantly better results again in 2026. The reason is strong demand and higher spot rates in container shipping.

---

Hapag-Lloyd is looking significantly more favorably at the current year.

The Hamburg shipping line has raised its earnings forecast for 2026. Hapag-Lloyd now expects EBITDA of 2.7 to 3.7 billion USD. Previously, the range was 1.1 to 3.1 billion USD.

EBIT also looks better. Instead of a possible loss of up to 1.5 billion USD, Hapag-Lloyd now expects EBIT between 0.1 and 1.1 billion USD.

The simple reason: Demand is stronger than expected and spot freight rates have developed more favorably.

For freight forwarders, this comes as no surprise. Anyone who has booked containers from Asia in recent weeks has noticed: The market is significantly firmer. Space is not easy to come by everywhere, and shipping lines have pushed rates upward.

Nevertheless, the matter is not without risk. Hapag-Lloyd itself states that the forecast remains uncertain due to volatile freight rates and geopolitical issues.

---

For shippers, this means: The shipping lines have tailwind again. Those who book short-term must reckon with higher prices and less flexibility.

For freight forwarders, this means: Secure rates cleanly, check validity periods, and don't let customers sit on old prices for too long.

In short: What was a possible loss forecast at Hapag-Lloyd becomes a possible billion-euro EBIT again. The ocean freight market has turned, but it is far from stable.

Hapag-Lloyd raised its forecast on July 13, 2026.

The new EBITDA target is USD 2.7 to 3.7 billion.

Previously, the EBITDA forecast was USD 1.1 to 3.1 billion.

The new EBIT target is USD 0.1 to 1.1 billion.

Previously, the EBIT range was USD minus 1.5 to plus 0.5 billion.

The reason is strong demand and improved spot freight rates.

According to Hapag-Lloyd, the forecast remains uncertain due to freight rates and the geopolitical situation.
