> Germany aims to accelerate infrastructure projects. A total of 170 billion euros has been allocated for modernization, along with faster approval processes and reduced bureaucracy.

---

Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) has promised the logistics industry faster infrastructure projects and reduced bureaucracy. Approximately 170 billion euros are earmarked for modernization and expansion.

Important: This is not a new dedicated fund that freight forwarding companies can apply for directly. It concerns public infrastructure such as roads, bridges, rail, and waterways.

Three points are particularly relevant for the logistics sector. First, planning and approval procedures are to be accelerated. Second, many bridges in the core network require renovation: approximately 4,000 bridges in total, of which around 500 are classified as particularly urgent. According to the ministry, more than one-third of the planned bridge areas had already been modernized by the end of 2025. Third, truck parking spaces and digital parking systems are to be expanded; approximately 100 million euros are available for federal rest areas.

Waterways and port hinterland connections remain on the agenda. This is particularly important during low-water periods or disruptions affecting individual modes of transport, as alternative routing options must function properly.

The ministry also mentions reduced reporting requirements and more practical regulations. Whether this will actually result in noticeably less administrative burden in practice remains to be seen. While much has been announced, not everything has been implemented yet.

For freight forwarding companies, therefore, the large figure is less decisive than which projects are actually built and which procedures are actually shortened.

For dispatchers, a political investment announcement tomorrow does not yet mean a clear highway.

It becomes interesting when concrete bridges, parking facilities, or port connections are completed faster.

Shippers should keep a close eye on major infrastructure projects on their main routes, as construction sites and closures can initially also bring additional costs.

In short: A lot of money has been announced; the decisive factor now is implementation.
