> The EU fears circumvention via the United Kingdom. Higher British tariffs are under discussion, but not yet decided.

---

The European Union is apparently pushing the United Kingdom toward closer coordination on tariffs for Chinese automobiles. Brussels fears that significant tariff differences could create a backdoor. Chinese vehicles or components could reach European supply chains via the United Kingdom and circumvent EU protective measures.

At the same time, London wants British products to be treated as European goods under the planned "Made in Europe" rules. These rules are intended to favor European products in certain subsidies and public procurement. The EU is proposing closer trade policy alignment or even a customs union as a possible solution.

Important: There is no decision yet that the United Kingdom will increase its tariffs. These are political discussions and demands. The exact design of the "Made in Europe" rules is also not yet final.

For automotive logistics, the country of origin is becoming more important. A vehicle assembled in the United Kingdom is not automatically free of Chinese components. Depending on the rules, the battery, cells, electronics, and value-added share can be decisive.

This also affects spare parts and raw materials in bonded warehouses.

---

Customs brokers and automotive freight forwarders should collect bills of materials, supplier declarations, and certificates of origin early. New tariffs could change routes, warehouse locations, and customs procedures.

In short: Nothing has been decided yet, but product origin is becoming a critical logistics issue.
