> Traffic fines vary significantly across Europe. Germany plans to review its fine catalog and align it more closely with European standards.

Anyone driving a truck through Europe knows the problem: identical offenses, different countries, completely different fines.

This situation is expected to become clearer in the future. The German interior ministers want to review the fine catalog and adjust the penalties more closely to European standards.

However, nothing has been decided yet. There are neither new fixed amounts nor a unified EU fine catalog.

Among other things, discussions are ongoing about increasing smaller warning fines and simplifying procedures. The background is that traffic violations are punished very differently across Europe.

For drivers and transport companies, more uniformity would be fundamentally sensible. Currently, a violation of driving times, speed, weight, or parking rules can vary greatly in cost depending on the country.

The EU has already established common rules for controls, serious violations, and cross-border exchange of fines. However, the level of penalties is still determined by individual states.

For us freight forwarders, this initially means: Nothing changes yet.

Drivers still need to be aware of the national regulations of each country. The differences can be significant, especially regarding driving times, speed limits, weight, and driving bans.

More uniformity would be helpful. Until then, we remain faced with the familiar European patchwork.

There is currently no unified EU penalty catalog.

The German interior ministers are calling for a stronger alignment with European standards.

Specific new penalty amounts have not yet been agreed upon.

The EU is already harmonizing inspections and the classification of serious traffic violations.

The actual amount of fines remains the responsibility of individual countries.
