> Enilive is setting a maximum price of 2.19 euros per liter of diesel for 30 days. SOCAR/IP is also following suit.

---

Italian energy company Eni is responding to sharply rising fuel prices. Through its fuel station business Enilive, the company is capping the price of diesel for 30 days at a maximum of €2.19 per liter. For petrol, the upper limit is €1.99. The measure started on September 28 and, according to reports, also applies at highway service stations. SOCAR or the IP brand has announced a similar price cap.

For transport companies, this initially sounds like clear relief. Nevertheless, precise calculations should be made. A maximum price is not automatically the best net price. Fuel card discounts, service fees, VAT, and the location of the station all play a role. A detour to a cheaper pump can quickly eat into the advantage.

The price cap is not a new Italian regulation. It is a time-limited decision by the providers. After the 30-day period expires, it can be extended, modified, or terminated. Transporters should therefore not calculate based on €2.19 for the entire season.

For quotations with diesel price escalation clauses, the agreed reference index remains decisive. The price at individual Eni stations does not automatically change this mechanism.

Dispatchers should review fuel card portals and direct drivers to suitable stations. Calculations for Italy continue to require a buffer. Those who charge diesel surcharges must apply the index mentioned in the contract cleanly.

In short: The cap helps in the short term, but does not replace proper fuel cost calculation.

Gasoline is capped at a maximum of €1.99 per liter.
The measure applies initially for 30 days.
Start date is September 28, 2026.
This is not a state-imposed price cap.

Card discounts and ancillary costs may affect the effective price.
