If a customer suddenly ships unusual quantities, uses multiple clearance facilities, or if product description, weight, packaging, and trade route do not match, one should take a closer look. Multiple small or separate shipments also do not protect against customs authorities identifying connections. Shipper, consignee, importer, telephone numbers, addresses, routing, goods value, or other shipment data can be linked together. For air freight forwarders, there is the additional risk that shipments are stopped, blocking capacity and triggering inquiries from customs or security authorities. In case of obvious discrepancies, shipments should not simply be cleared blindly according to customer instructions.
