> More round trips between Germany, Italy and France: CargoBeamer expands its semitrailer offering on rail.

---

CargoBeamer has expanded three railway connections for the transport of semi-trailers. Between Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola, 22 weekly round trips are now offered. Calais–Perpignan has eight, Stuttgart–Milan has five. Several industry publications report this based on information from the company.

The expansion also targets freight forwarders with non-liftable trailers. These are semi-trailers that are not designed for normal handling with a terminal crane. CargoBeamer offers such units the opportunity to shift the long portion of a journey onto rail. The truck continues to handle the route to and from the terminal.

More departures can simplify planning. If a cutoff time is missed, a denser schedule can provide an additional alternative option. However, this does not guarantee available spaces or a specific substitute connection. The published round trip also says nothing about whether the appropriate train is available for one's own loading time.

For a comparison with direct road transport, dispatchers should therefore calculate the entire route. This includes pre-transport, terminal acceptance, rail transport, pickup, and onward delivery. The standing time of the semi-trailer should also be factored in. A favorable rail segment is of little benefit if no tractor unit is available at the destination.

Shippers should align their loading windows with cutoff times as closely as possible. For regular volumes, it may be worthwhile to request fixed spaces. For individual shipments, a concrete booking check with weight, dimensions, and desired delivery date is more cost-effective.

The distinction between additional supply and already booked capacity remains important. Higher frequency creates options. Whether this results in shorter transit times or lower costs for a specific customer must be determined by the freight forwarder based on their own lane.

---

Calculate rail and road costs from ramp to ramp. Check acceptance deadlines, trailer release, and follow-up capacity before booking. In short: More trains only help when the connections are right.
