On the A2 eastern bypass, a new, low-noise road surface will be installed over five weekends. The affected area includes the section at the Bäumlihof bridge and the Schwarzwald tunnel. The A2 will mostly remain passable, but in some sections only one lane per direction will be available. It doesn't take much for traffic to back up. Work will take place on the following weekends: - September, 9 p.m., until September 7, 5 a.m. - September, 9 p.m., until September 14, 5 a.m. - September, 9 p.m., until September 21, 5 a.m. - September, 9 p.m., until September 28, 5 a.m. - October, 9 p.m., until October 5, 5 a.m. During the first weekend, the on-ramps at Zürcher Strasse and Wettstein Allee toward Germany and France are closed. The on-ramp at Riehen Strasse toward Switzerland is also closed. The off-ramp at Wettstein Allee toward Switzerland cannot be used. I would pay the most attention during the third weekend. From September 18 to 21, the A2 at the Wiese junction is interrupted in both directions. Traffic to and from France can remain on the motorway. Toward Germany, traffic is diverted through the Basel city area. As a local office assistant, I would say: don't calculate tight schedules for routes. Before departure, check the ASTRA website once more and clearly explain the access route to the driver. Simply following the navigation system may not work in this case. --- For dispatch planning, handovers, ramp appointments, and connections on Monday morning are particularly critical. Anyone who needs to go to EuroAirport, to Basel Railway Station, or across the German border should build in extra time. As alternative routes, ASTRA recommends Schwarzwaldstrasse and Schwarzwaldallee in the city area. However, with heavy traffic, these roads are likely to become congested as well. If possible, avoid the East bypass or reschedule the trip to a different time. Heavy trucks are generally not permitted to drive in Switzerland at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., nor on Sundays. Exceptions require a permit. Please do not forget this in your planning. In short: Check beforehand, build in some buffer time, and do not inform the driver about the closure only when already stuck in traffic. --- The works concern five weekends. The timeframe runs from September 4 to October 5, 2026. Construction work is taking place at the Bäumlihof bridge and the Schwarzwald tunnel. The A2 mostly remains open with reduced lanes. The first working weekend has been confirmed by ASTRA. From September 18 to 21, the A2 is closed at the Wiese junction. Transit to and from France remains possible on the motorway there. Germany-bound traffic will be routed through the city area during this weekend. The works may be postponed in case of bad weather.
