The project will handle coal, limestone, and other bulk cargo. --- Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, or APSEZ, has been awarded the contract for the development and operation of two bulk cargo berths at Paradip Port. The port is located in the Indian state of Odisha on the east coast. The planned berths CQ-I and CQ-II will provide a combined 18 million tonnes of additional annual capacity. They will be equipped with mechanized cargo handling systems, deepwater berths, and large storage areas. The concession runs for 30 years and will be implemented as a public-private partnership. Importantly: The award does not mean a completed terminal. Adani has received a "Letter of Award," an official award letter. Construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and ramp-up follow next. The company announcement does not provide a specific opening date. Paradip is an important transshipment hub for the resource-rich hinterland in eastern and central India. Steel mills and industrial zones are located around the port. The new facilities will primarily handle coal, limestone, and other dry bulk commodities. For international shippers, additional capacity can reduce waiting times and bottlenecks. However, this depends on how quickly the project is built and whether rail, road, and storage connections can keep pace.
