A weighbridge is a permanently installed, calibrated platform scale set flush with the ground, over which vehicles drive fully to capture gross, tare, and net weight in a single automated measurement. It is found at terminal gates, recycling yards, quarries, warehouses, and border crossings. The recorded weight data serves several simultaneous purposes: verifying compliance with road traffic load limits, calculating freight-based charges, supporting inventory management, and meeting regulatory documentation requirements. Certified weighbridges are subject to statutory calibration and maintenance intervals set by national weights-and-measures authorities. Unlike portable axle load scales, a weighbridge measures the vehicle's total weight in one pass.
