When a loaded vehicle arrives at a logistics facility, recycling plant, or border crossing, the weighbridge is typically the first stop. It consists of a flush-mounted, driveable platform with integrated load cells and an electronic processing unit that determines the total mass of the vehicle including its cargo. The result is used to verify compliance with permitted axle loads and gross vehicle weights under road traffic regulations, to calculate charges such as landfill fees or tolls, and to support load planning. In customs clearance, the weighing certificate may be required as documentary proof of the shipment's gross weight. Unlike fixed installations, mobile weighbridges are available for temporary weighing points at construction sites or during roadside enforcement operations.
