Warehouse management keeps stock available at minimum cost by planning, controlling, and optimizing all goods movements inside a facility, alongside continuous inventory tracking. Logistics service providers and in-house warehouse teams rely on a warehouse management system (WMS) to direct receiving, putaway, slotting, picking, and dispatch, cutting error rates and shortening throughput times. The WMS typically integrates with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that supplies order and financial data. Warehouse management is distinct from warehouse technology, which describes the physical and mechanical infrastructure; in day-to-day operations, however, the two are tightly intertwined.
