In practice, this forms the backbone of any WMS integration: handheld scanners read the codes, the system logs movements in real time, and error rates in picking and dispatch drop considerably. It should not be confused with product labeling such as EAN or GTIN barcodes, which identify the article itself—warehouse labeling identifies the storage location and its context.
