Veterinary control is the official inspection regime designed to prevent animal diseases and pathogens from crossing borders through the movement of animals and animal-origin goods. Competent veterinary authorities check health certificates, vaccination records, and – where required – the shipment itself at points of entry, exit, or transit. The scope covers livestock, live aquaculture, meat, dairy products, eggs, hides, and feed materials of animal origin. Requirements differ significantly by country of origin; missing or non-compliant documentation routinely causes costly delays at the border. Importers and freight forwarders are well advised to verify the applicable rules before shipment, not upon arrival.
