# Unverified List

> When screening shipments involving U.S.-origin goods or U.S.

When screening shipments involving U.S.-origin goods or U.S. supply chains, exporters and freight forwarders may encounter the Unverified List maintained by the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS): a register of individuals and companies whose bona fides BIS was unable to confirm through end-use checks. Entries typically arise from unclear addresses, missing business registrations, or inconsistent information about a party's operations. Dealings with listed entities are not automatically prohibited, but they require heightened due diligence—such as facility inspections, bank verifications, or additional government clearances—before any transaction proceeds. The Unverified List is distinct from the Entity List, where exports generally require a license or are prohibited outright. BIS updates the list on an ongoing basis.
