Unattended delivery significantly reduces failed delivery attempts and cuts the cost of redelivery runs. Once the parcel is placed, the risk of theft or damage typically passes to the consignee. Carriers therefore require prior opt-in consent and document the drop-off with a geotagged photo as proof of delivery. Unlike a signed handover, there is no formal receipt – the photograph and GPS record substitute for a signature.
