A freight forwarder inventorying a full pallet in seconds without scanning a single individual package is almost certainly using UHF RFID. UHF RFID (Ultra High Frequency Radio Frequency Identification) is a radio technology operating in the 860–960 MHz band that enables contactless identification and tracking of goods, load carriers, and vehicles over distances of several metres. Compared with HF RFID (13.56 MHz), UHF delivers greater read range, higher throughput, and the ability to capture many tags simultaneously – critical when scanning pallets or entire cargo holds. In warehouse and distribution logistics, UHF RFID underpins automated goods-receipt processes, cycle counts, and shipment tracking. Tags, readers, and middleware integrate readily into existing warehouse management systems.
