As of June 2026 — Imports from China into the United States face a multi-layered tariff regime whose effective burden is, depending on the product, well above the average for other countries — for many industrial goods it adds up to around 48 percent. It is composed of the regular most-favoured-nation duty (around 3.4 percent), the Section 301 tariffs (Lists 1 to 4A, 25 or 7.5 percent), a fentanyl-related additional tariff of 10 percent (halved from the original 20 percent IEEPA fentanyl tariff as part of the truce), and a reciprocal baseline tariff of 10 percent. In November 2025 Washington and Beijing agreed a truce limited to 10 November 2026: the heightened reciprocal tariffs remain suspended and the reciprocal rate stays at 10 percent. Special rules apply to individual product groups — electric vehicles have been charged 100 percent since 2024 and lithium-ion batteries 25 percent; the roughly 178 product exclusions were extended to 10 November 2026. In addition, the US has suspended the duty-free threshold (de minimis) for shipments up to USD 800 for China since May 2025, which mainly affects e-commerce parcels. The legal bases (Section 301, Section 232, reciprocal tariffs) are partly the subject of ongoing proceedings; specific rates should be checked before every import against the US tariff schedule (HTS).
