> As of July 2026.

As of July 2026. US tariffs on India peaked at a combined 50% between 27 August 2025 and early February 2026 – made up of a 25% reciprocal tariff (effective 7 August 2025) and an additional 25% penalty surcharge imposed by President Trump under the IEEPA over India's purchases of Russian crude oil, making India one of the hardest-hit US trading partners. Following a framework agreement on 2 February 2026, the US cut the reciprocal rate to 18% and removed the 25% oil-related surcharge by Executive Order (effective 7 February 2026); in return India committed to phasing out Russian oil, dismantling trade barriers and buying around USD 500 billion of US goods over five years. However, the 18% rate still rested on the IEEPA emergency statute – and therefore lapsed with the US Supreme Court ruling of 20 February 2026 (Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump): since 24 February 2026 India, like most countries, is subject to the flat 10% Section 122 surcharge, which expires around 24 July 2026. The commitments from the interim agreement (oil phase-out, market opening) remain unaffected. Important: sectoral Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminium, copper and automobiles still apply on top and are not included in the country rate. Not to be confused with the general reciprocal tariffs, a product-specific additional duty or classic anti-dumping duties; the final bilateral trade agreement (BTA) was still being negotiated in mid-2026.
